Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe (JUH) was founded in 1952, and is represented by over 200 national, regional, and local associations throughout the Federal Republic of Germany. Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e. V. is a registered association in accordance with German legislature and a professional association of "Diakonisches Werk" of the "Evangelical Church in Germany" (EKD). JUH was solely founded for charitable and non-profit purposes. The statutory tasks include first-aid, medical, rescue and ambulance service, civil protection, youth, children and hospice work as well as overseas humanitarian aid.
Building on the national medical expertise of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, Johanniter's international assistance concentrates on providing basic medical care to people living in disaster areas and particularly disadvantaged region of the world. The project work concentrates on basic health care, emergency relief, and disaster preparedness. In addition, Johanniter improves orthopaedic care for the physically disabled in different countries worldwide.
